Friends of Half Way Home

Know the Facts

Why can some shelters and rescues claim to be "no kill" or "low-kill" while Half Way Home remians a relatively "high-kill" shelter?

  • Most shelters in the metro area turn away people when they become full.  In fact, they encourage them to come to US!
  1. We must take in all animals from Kansas City residents at all times.
  2. We do charge for dropping off animals, but will never turn down someone if they cannot pay.

  • Many shelters will not accept animals outside of their jurisdiction.
  • We will never turn anyone down, regardless of where they come from.

All of the animals pictured here and thousands more every year are either given up by their owners or found as strays and not reclaimed. The lucky ones are adopted. Many, many, many are not so lucky.

  • Educate on pet safety/pet husbandry.
  • Work with other area local animal control officials and rescue groups to reduce population of feral dogs and cats in problem areas of the city.
  • Assist in helping find new homes for homeless pets.
